Imbolc Evening Seven Candle Ritual

We hope you enjoy this beautiful Imbolc Ritual this weekend as we turn the wheel and witness the returning of the light.

Returning to the Light

The seven candles in this ritual represent different aspects of the season, but also different parts of our own human journey.

At Imbolc, we are standing at a threshold.

Winter has not completely left us, but something is beginning to shift. The days are stretching a little longer. The earth is quietly stirring. Beneath the surface, life is beginning to move again.

These seven flames remind us of that returning light.

They represent warmth, purification, protection, wisdom, inspiration and love. They also remind us of the boundaries we sometimes need to create between what we are carrying forward and what we are ready to leave behind.

This is a ritual of renewal.

Not necessarily becoming someone new, but clearing away what has become heavy, stagnant or unnecessary so that we can hear what is beginning to call us forward.

Preparing your space

Begin by creating your altar in whatever way feels beautiful and meaningful to you.

You might bring in white flowers, greenery, seeds, herbs, a bowl of water, something gathered from the garden, or anything that speaks to you of Imbolc and the first quiet movement towards spring.

There really is no right way to do this.

Let your altar remind you of renewal, purification, awakening and the returning light.

Before beginning the ritual, you may like to take a warm cleansing bath or shower.

As the water moves over you, imagine yourself washing away the heaviness of winter. You don't need to force anything to leave. Simply allow yourself to soften and notice what you are ready to put down.

When you are ready, come to your altar.

You will need seven candles. Red and white are traditionally beautiful for this ritual, but use whatever you have. Tealights are perfect.

Open your space in whatever way feels right for you.

You may use the 13 Moons Incantation, followed by the Adi Mantra and Heart Protection Mantra, or simply sit quietly for a few moments and arrive.

Take a breath.

Feel the earth beneath you.

And when you are ready, begin.

First Candle -Seeking the Light

Light the first candle.

Although there is still darkness,

I turn towards the light.

In the last cold days of winter,

I listen for the stirring of life.

I welcome the light returning.

Pause and watch the flame.

Second Candle - The Fire of Renewal

Light the second candle.

I call upon the fire that warms the hearth.

The fire that brings light into darkness.

The fire that awakens what has been sleeping.

May this flame cleanse and renew me.

Third Candle - Sacred Boundaries

Light the third candle.

This flame marks a boundary.

What is mine, I honour and protect.

What is not mine, I release.

What belongs outside may remain outside.

Within this space, I am safe and sovereign.

Take a moment here.

Feel the boundary around you - not as a wall, but as a clear and loving container for your own energy.

Fourth Candle - Transformation

Light the fourth candle.

I call upon the transforming fire.

May it burn away what has become heavy.

May it warm what has grown cold.

May it create space for something new to emerge.

Fifth Candle — Love, Wisdom & Inspiration

Light the fifth candle.

As this flame grows, may love grow within me.

May wisdom guide me.

May inspiration find me.

May I remain open to the quiet whispers of what wishes to be born.

Sixth Candle - Purification

Light the sixth candle.

I call again upon the sacred fire.

Fire of hearth and home.

Fire of transformation and renewal.

Purify what is ready to be releasedand strengthen what is ready to grow.

Seventh Candle — Returning to the Light

Finally, light the seventh candle.

Fire of the hearth, light of the returning sun, surround me with your warmth.

Illuminate what I am ready to see.

Cleanse what I am ready to release.

Awaken what has been sleeping within me.

I welcome the returning light.

And I remember that the light is returning within me too.

Take your time.

Look at all seven flames.

Rather than seeing them as separate, imagine their light beginning to merge

seven individual flames creating one field of warmth and illumination around you.

Feel that light growing.

Let it surround you.

Let it move through you.

Then simply sit.

There is nowhere else you need to go with this.

Watch the candles flicker and notice what arises.

Imbolc is a time of healing, purification and inspiration, but it is also a time of beginnings that we cannot quite see yet.

You might ask yourself:

What within me is beginning to stir?

What has become stagnant and is ready to move again?

What am I ready to cleanse or leave behind?

What needs tending, rather than forcing?

Where am I beginning to feel the smallest spark of inspiration?

Imagine the candlelight surrounding you like a warm glow.

Let it move into the places that feel tired, bruised, uncertain or forgotten.

You do not need to know exactly what comes next.

Like the earth at Imbolc, much of what is becoming is still beneath the surface.

For now, it is enough to tend the flame.

To notice the light.

And to trust that something is already beginning.

And so it is

And so it is

And so it is

Blessed Be x
