Equinox Ritual to Bring Protection to Your Home

There are times when we feel the need to bring protection to ourselves and our homes. Mabon (the autumnal equinox) is the perfect time to perform a ritual that banishes all negativity. This is a process that gives you the opportunity to banish the demons from within and any negative spirits from your home or property so that you can safely and deeply travel within, it is as though you are airing out your home and closing the front door to rest deeply and peacefully and dream profoundly throughout the night, without fear of being disturbed.

This ritual will also cast an energetic threshold around your property that will protect it, and all those who enter, keeping all negative spirits out.

We performed this ritual on the 2023 Autumn Equinox portal around Sam's home and studio space, where we hold many of our trainings and retreat, so those of you who visit us here can know that you will cross the threshold of this beautifully woven energy field with members of your soul group 13 Moons community.

We hope you enjoy this process and let us know your thoughts and experiences in the comments.

As I will it, so it shall be.

Ritual Items

A bowl of earth from your garden (or your local park)

An assortment of iron nails (you can use as many as you want or as little as 4)

A brown or green candle to represent the land

Open your Space.

We like to use this incantation:

Divine Beloved. Angels, Guides, Spirits, Universal Wisdom Keepers.

We/I call on you to sit with us.

Energies from the North, East, South and West

Elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water

We/I call on you to sit with us.

Our Ancestors, Our Mothers, Our Grandmothers, Our Great Grandmothers

The Women who have paved the way.

We/I call on you to sit with us.

Bless me with Grace to surrender into the beauty of my own Soul

May all those who sit within this space be blessed with abundance with peace and with happiness.

And so it is

Begin at the entrance of your property. If you have a garden and house, this will likely be at the gate at the end of the drive, where it connects to the street. If you live in an apartment or in an urban home, this may be your front door, or the hallway in front of your door.

Even if you live in an apartment or one room of a home, you can still do this ritual. Simply adapt it so that you are going around the perimeter of your apartment or room, beginning with the doorway.

Instead of driving the nails into the ground, you can tuck a small nail up under the edge of the carpet or you could place the nails into plant pots that you have at certain points around your home.

You can either carry your ritual items on a tray if you are holding this alone, or if you have other people participating, give each person some items to carry. You can do this ritual any time of the day, although night time may be better if you don’t want your neighbours to come over and ask what you are doing!

The Ritual

1. Place the bowl of earth at the entrance to your to your home.

You can place the bowl on table, or you can just set it on the ground.

2. Place your hands into the bowl or on the ground, and feel the cool soil on your fingertips. Feel the energy of the earth, traveling from the ground, up into the bowl, through the dirt, and into you.

Focus on the bowl of earth, and say:

Earth, symbol of security and stability, bring peace and harmony into my home at this season of thanksgiving.

May my family be well, my house be a safe haven, and my table be one that invites and provides for many..

May this earth, this soil, this land, ground me and protect me and those whom I love, and that which I call mine.

My home shall be a safe place, a secure place, a harmonious place for all those who enter.

As I will, so it shall be.

3. Leave the bowl and the candle next to it, where it is and begin slowly walking around the perimeter of your property, traveling in a clockwise, direction.

Feel the energy of your land, and the way in which you connect with it.

Is there a tree you particularly love?

Or the big rock where the kids always sit?

Or that weird piece of root that you trip over every time?

Consider why your property is home instead of just a place to live.

Even if you live in an apartment, you can do this — is there a creaky spot by the door that you always notice when you come in late? All of these make a house personal and connect us to it.

As you walk around your yard stop at certain points that feel right. You could place one nail at each of the directional points North, South and West.

When you reach a point that feels right drive a nail into the Earth.

We use iron as this is known as a protective material throughout many cultures.

As you push it into the earth, say:

Iron spike, in the ground, protect my home, my family and me. Keep out that which would cause us harm.

As I will, so it shall be.

Repeat this with each iron nail until you have created a protective barrier around your home.

4. You should find yourself returned to your bowl of earth.

Light the green or brown candle, and place it within the bowl.

Pack the earth lightly around it so that the candle doesn’t topple over.

Say:

Dark and light, equal parts at the time of Mabon. Fire and earth, together. Balance, harmony, security, these things shall be mine.

As I will, so it shall be.

Take a few moments to reflect on your home life, and the things that mean security to you.

When you feel complete bring the bowl with the candle inside, and place it in a spot where all can see — on your hearth, or the kitchen table — and allow it to sit until the candle goes out.

When the candle has burned away, return the earth to your property.

Close your ritual:

We thank the angels, guides, spirits, energies and elements that have supported this ritual today.

We ask that they continue to protect this home for my highest good and the highest good of all those who enter here.

Thank you Thank you Thank you

Sat Nam

It is good practice to work around the perimeter of your property and check the sights of the nails on each equinox and on the Solstice's. You may be called to replace or move certain ones or change the positions.
